The vitra Akari 75D Pendant is part of the Akari Light Sculptures designed by Isamu Noguchi are a series of luminaires, handcrafted from traditional washi paper by Japanese artisans. The harshness of electricity is filtered through a hand crafted washi paper shade, resulting in a relaxing and inviting glare-free illumination. The result is a cosy ambience that immediately creates a feeling of calm and tranquility.
Each 75D pendant is made by hand in the Ozeki workshop, a traditional family-run company based in Gifu. The process consists of bamboo rods which are stretched across wooden forms designed by Noguchi to make the framework of the light. The washi paper shade is then secured to the structure. This process can take up to 6 hours to complete, and each pendant is marked with a sun-and-moon logo, resembling the corresponding Japanese characters and guaranteeing the authenticity of each product. The Akari 75D is a larger version of theAkari 55D Pendant and similarly is a beautiful addition to living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and entryways.
