The Vitra Akari 16A Pendant features a unique asymmetrical shade, designed by Isamu Noguchi it not only makes a statement but also provides your space with a warm and inviting glow, perfect for relaxing after a long day. The washi paper shade is designed to filter out the light source resulting in a soft glow illuminating the room. This paper pendant is a beautiful exploration of classic craftsmanship and can be utilised in a multitude of settings - placed in bedrooms, living rooms, dining spaces or entryways to generate a peaceful and calming ambience.
The Akari 16A Pendant is handcrafted from traditional washi paper by Japanese artisans in the Ozeki workshop in Gifu and finished with a sun and moon logo, guaranteeing authenticity to the owner and resembling their Japanese heritage. Noguchi originally found his inspiration for the Akari lights in this village during a trip to Japan. While there he sketched his very first Akari Light Sculptures, he chose the title 'Akari' for these pieces as the word means 'light' in Japanese.
