Designed by Isamu Noguchi and boasting an oval shade, the vitra Akari 21A Pendant is handcrafted from washi paper in the Ozeki workshop in Gifu by Japanese artisans. The process consists of bamboo rods which are stretched across wooden forms designed by Noguchi to make the framework of the light. The washi paper shade is then secured to the structure. This process is incredibly intricate and each shade can take up to six hours to be completed. To promise authenticity, each Akari light sculpture is finished with a sun and moon logo.
The Akari 21A Pendant is designed to carefully filter out the light source, the result is a calming ambient glow that illuminates the room. For this reason, the 21A Pendant is a beautiful addition to living spaces, bedrooms, dining rooms and entryways.
