Smoke Dining Armchair by Moooi

Maarten Baas, the designer, managed to capture the beauty of burned and charcoaled wood inside a long lasting material. As part of his graduation project, from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Baas created a collection of chairs and a single chandelier light using just wood. It was a study of beauty and perfection. He believes that we as humans tend to keep things static, whereas in nature, beauty is an ever changing concept. So the wood is charcoaled and then treated with epoxy resin, which will both retain the smoked look while also making the wood usable again.

The Smoke Dining Armchair is a comfortable and somewhat Gothic looking chair for a multitude of uses.
