Kartell

Founded by Giulio Castelli in 1949, Kartell has quickly become one of Italy's top designer brands for lighting and furniture. In 1999, Kartell became the first company in the world to use polycarbonate to produce furnishing items such as the iconic Philippe Starck's Louis Ghost Chair and Masters Chair. As the brand has progressed, they have collaborated with a variety of designers whose products have been synonymous with the brand. Designers such as Ferruccio Laviani, Anna Castelli Ferrieri and Philippe Starck.

More recently, Kartell has moved towards making their products and manufacturing processes as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. They called this movement Kartell Loves the Planet
which encourages designers to think outside the box to create more sustainable products. 'A Kartell product is a timeless product, which is produced with the utmost respect for the environment'. An example of this would be the Smart Wood range that uses a thin layer of wood which has been obtained from certified forests, with minimum consumption of raw material.
