PH 5-4½ Pendant Light by Louis Poulsen

The PH 5-4½ pendant is based on a design by Poul Henningsen from 1931. He designed a lampshade made from a 4 shade system which could be hung high in the room, being a new alternative to the chandeliers that were used at the time. The shades allow the light to be spread horizontally in an effective way to illuminate the entire space. After it was removed from the Louis Poulsen collection in the 1940s, the pendant was revived in 1979 by designers Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen.

They reworked the pendant light by adding a matte finish and a small blue shade to make the glow even more warm and to avoid glare in space. The PH 5-4½ pendant light was then finally released in the way we know it today in 1984. Perfect for many spaces, the pendant can be used in homes or professional settings, such as museums and galleries, thanks to its bright and useful glow.
