Le Klint 172 Pendant

The 172 Pendant was designed by Poul Christiansen in 1921. While working with Le Klint, Poul Christiansen adapted the straight-line folds Le Klint used to create the infamous pleats on their shades, opting for curved folds. He found that introducing curved folds into the design gave the lamps a more unique and organic shape. It was using this technique that led to the creation of the 172 Pendant. Rounded folds cover the shade, arching over each other until the overall globe silhouette is formed. The 172 has become one of Le Klint’s most popular designs, and until 2009 Le Klint continued to add more sizes to the collection.

The PVC shade diffuses light into a glare-free, welcoming glow while the paper dunes that cover the shade create a play of light and shadows. The eye-catching nature of the pendant makes it perfect for hanging above a dining room table or installed as multiples to create a display in a lounge. Even bigger installations can be created in large commercial spaces such as hotel lobbies using a range of different sizes to create a remarkable effect.
