Pedrera PD2 Floor Lamp by Gubi
The PD2 floor lamp, distributed by Gubi, is an original design of Barba Corsini, made in 1955 for the world-renowned La Pedrera (also known as Casa Milà). Constructed between 1906 and 1912, the famous building was designed by Antoni Gaudí and has gone through several renovations since. In 1955, Corsini was given the task of renovating the attic laundry rooms, transforming them into 13 apartments. Designing and decorating the rooms throughout, Corsini developed the floor lamp by taking inspiration from the building’s perforated chimneys, reflecting and celebrating Gaudí’s original design.
In 1991, a new renovation was commissioned to turn the attic apartments back into the true style of Gaudí, meaning that Corsini’s designs would be lost. Fortunately the PD2 floor lamp was saved by Joaquim Ruiz Millet and re-edited alongside Corsini and Gubi to re-introduce the light to the modern eye. Together they have produced a
Pedrera collection that uses Corsini’s original design as the basis to create new lights.
The floor lamp is distinguished by its steel holed shade and with an inner opal polycarbonate diffuser, this light casts a warm ambience. The simplistic and neat design is fun and playful and will lend a touch of contemporary design to any home or work space.
