Foscarini Nile Table Lamp

Designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, the Nile is a sculptural and decorative lamp, bringing a sophisticated feel into the room. When switched on, the Nile lamp becomes the focal point; shining light downwards on the surface, as well as upwards through the two open sides of the blown glass diffuser. Dordoni successfully combines two contrasting materials, blown glass and Marquina or Carrara marble. Two opposites which perfectly complement each other. The cool marble and warm blown glass exist in a perfect balance defying the laws of gravity. The glass diffuser balances on the base thanks to the ingenious use of weights and joints, invisible to the user.

The Nile table lamp is available in two colour options, a black Marquina marble vase or a white Carrara marble base. The marble base is covered with a rubber scratch-proof disk, to protect any surfaces while the in-line dimmer allows you to adjust the light intensity of the Nile lamp.

Dordoni, commenting on the design of his lamp I designed two intersecting volumes: the small marble base, and the large glass diffuser. When I looked at them I was reminded of the famous bust of Queen Nefertiti, which gave me the name: Nile.
