Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007) was a Dutch architect and designer, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Wohlert trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated from in 1944. He was later employed here from 1968 - 1986, during this time he was a Professor of Structural Art. Wohlert's designs have received outstanding praise for their sculptural forms achieved through precise structural elements, and his work has become classed as iconic designs.
In 1949, Vilh. Wolhert founded Bo & Wohlert with Jorgen Bo. Their studio was based in Copenhagen and they spent their time restoring various historical churches. The duo were celebrated for the design of the Louisianna Art Museum in Denmark. A project they dedicated over 30 years of work to, designing a group of buildings that sit alongside the villa.
Vilh. Wohlert received numerous prizes and awards during his time in the architecture and design field; including the C.F. Hansen medal from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1979, the Gold Medal in 1946 presented by the same academy and the Danish National League for Built Heritage and Landscape's Cultural Prize.
