Terence Woodgate is a much-respected British designer who is known for his stripped-down, elegant, and modern approach to design. After initially training as a design engineer, Woodgate found himself fascinated by the purer forms of design. This led to him re-training as a furniture designer in the mid-80s. However, his background in engineering has proved beneficial throughout his design career as Woodgate finds he can speak the same language as the people who manufacture his designs. After training at the London Guildhall University, Woodgate went on to open his first studio in London in 1988.
Since then, he has been awarded Royal Designer for Industry in 2003 as well as several international design awards, including The Red Dot "Best of the Best" award. Terence Woodgate works from his studio in East Sussex, where he continues to draw inspiration from outside the design world. His signature aesthetic is modernism and minimalism, as Woodgate states that he is more interested in subtraction than addition. This can be seen throughout his collection of pendants and lights that he has created for Case, which are sleek, elegant and minimal in design.
