Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen was a Danish designer born in 1913. He is best known for his varying styles of designs, which adapted and evolved significantly over time. Svend was a licensed ornamental metalworker, a skill that influenced his designs throughout his career.

During the 1950s, Svend’s designs featured colourful, geometric patterns. His lamps with the classic tripod base were highly popular during this time. In the 1960s his style changed completely, with unfinished brass and copper becoming the focal point of his pieces. He drew inspiration from the Brutalist style that was popular from the 1950s to the mid-70s, which originated from Swedish architect Hans Asplund.

As well as luminaires, Holm-Sørensen also designed furniture and small items. He was known to sketch everything, showcasing his creative streak. His ideas would be jotted down on envelopes, theatre programs, and even tram tickets. Although not all of his ideas came to life, Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen played a significant role in Danish lighting history, and his designs are still sought after to this day.
