Poul Christiansen is a Danish architect who graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1973. During his studies, he was assigned the task of designing a new egg carton. Christiansen took inspiration from the shape of the egg for this task. He folded a sheet of paper, allowing the folds to transform the paper into an organic-looking, strengthened form suitable for holding and protecting the delicate egg. When Poul Christiansen began working for Le Klint in 1969, he used his pioneering pleating technique to revolutionise Le Klint’s classic design lines.
In 1987 Christiansen founded the design studio Komplot Design together with the Russian-Danish designer Boris Berlin. The Komplot studio has created award-winning pieces that are exhibited in museums around the world. This includes the Non chair that they designed for Swedish manufacturer Källemo in 2000.
Poul Christiansen believes that good design should have a function, contain an element of innovation, and should speak directly to our emotions. This philosophy has led him to create universally recognised designs as well as win a remarkable number of highly acclaimed awards including the German Design Award Gold Winner and the Formland Spring Award.
