Gunnar Biilmann Petersen is an iconic Danish architect who was born in 1897. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Decorative Art. Once he graduated, he went on to work as an architect and graphic designer. During his career, Gunnar Biilmann Petersen made an impact on the world of art. His graphic designs included banknotes, posters, and company logos. His labels and trademarks merged professional clarity with a decorative artistic element which proved to be significant in raising the quality of work seen in the industry.
In addition to his design works, Petersen worked as a professor. Between 1928 to 1946 he worked as a teacher at the Academy's School of Sculpture and in 1951 he went on to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he became the first professor of design.
In 1948 Gunnar Biilmann Petersen was commissioned by Le Klint where he created the 343 table lamp. The 343 became an iconic piece in Le Klint’s collection as its vibrant green base was a far cry from the muted tones of wood, brass, and steel that were seen throughout the brand’s designs.
