Emperor Suspended by Moooi

Neri&Hu are firm believers that research is the best tool in design. Their Emperor Suspended collection includes a stunning suspension available in three models (Small, Medium or Large) and a choice of black or red colour. The Emperor was formed based on an Asian folklore tale, where the emperor was gifted a nightingale bird. Enchanted by the nightingale's singing and beautiful appearance, he instantly fell in love with it and wished to keep it close to him forever. He ordered for a beautiful and majestic cage to be built for the bird, so that the Emperor can place the nightingale into his chambers.

The designer duo created this literal interpretation of the Emperor's cage and transformed it into a contemporary designer lighting made of bamboo and rattan. The choice of organic material, which is hand crafted, creates a sophisticated statement. Due to each cage being woven by hand, you should expect that each suspension will have its own and unique character. The glass diffuser, sitting at the centre of the cage emits a warm and soft light. The Emperor collection won the Perspective Awards and Taiwan Interior Design awards in 2010.
