Eric de Dormael is a French sculptor, designer and artist, born in France in 1950. He is known for his work, and how it lives on the border of artistic installation and professional lighting. Dormael plays with forms, shadows, materials and light, and is celebrated for his work leaving an impression upon it's user. Studying at Saint-Luc School in Tournai and at the Atelier Met in Penninghen, Dormael began to perfect his graphic gesture and learned perspective. For many years he explored multiple creative avenues before devoting himself to designing luminaires.
Dormael's designs adopt architectural forms, with a combination of experimental tones. These designs utilise brass and bronze materials, boasting pure lines and unconventional forms. Brass, a pliable material, along with plaster or bronze enable him to make light and shadow meet. With passion, his work passes the line from object to work of art, creating versatile and intriguing light sculptures.
Eric De Dormael's work is world famous and is displayed across the globe, including at PAD Paris, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin, the Negropontes Gallery, New York, California and many more.
