Øivind Slaatto

Oivind Slaatto is a Danish designer, after graduating with a Masters degree from Danish Design School he became the co-founder of Slaatto Design, based in Copenhagen. His work is heavily inspired by nature and he understands that 'practice makes perfect', and constantly seeks to refine his designs over time. In his own words, Slaatto's aim is to create designs that are not only unique, but also to resemble a piece of music being played – which people experience as simple and light.

He always searches for the obvious rather than the spectacular - he is always aiming for the clearest possible solution. He strives to create products that are intuitive and unique for his impressive list of international clients. Among his clients are Danish High-End brands, Bang & Olufsen, Louis Poulsen Lighting and Le Klint.

"When you learn to play an instrument, you have to practice and practice and practice. But first, you need to hear what you want to play. You have to hear the music even though there is complete silence, and have the ability to hear something which nobody else can hear. It's exactly the same thing when you're designing something that is not yet there. You have to dare to look inside of yourself, and to visualize what you would like to see, and then create it." - Oivind Slaatto
