Born in Belgium in 1962, Vincent Van Duysen obtained his degree from Sint-Lucas School of Architecture. From 1986 until 1987, he collaborated with Aldo Cibic at Studio Sottsass Asso Associati in Milan, after this he founded Vincent Van Duysen Architects in 1989, his own architecture and interior design studio. Each of his lights are designed from an architectural perspective, creating objects of simplicity with a solid form; Van Duysen utilises pure and tactile materials. Functionality, durability and comfort are the prime components of the work, an architectural language not shy to convey aesthetics, but prone to eschew fashion and trends.
Vincent Van Duysen has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Belgian Designer of the Year and the Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award, and an EDIDA for Best Interior Designer of the Year.
"Nothing is as beautiful as daylight. The moment darkness falls and artificial light is needed, it can be approached in different ways. Daylight can be simulated in a very technical way or artificial light can be accessed intimately with a domestic and warm appearance." - Vincent Van Duysen
