Born in 1968 in the Netherlands, Tord Boontje is a contemporary designer known for his expressions of romanticism through his work. Boontje studied at Eindhoven Design Academy and the Royal College of Art. He moved to London in 1992, where he founded Studio Tord Boontje.
The studio has worked with large brands across the globe, specialising in experimental design. An interest in social issues grew into them working with artisans in developing countries and led to projects in Guatemala, Senegal, Rio de Janeiro and Columbia.
Tord Boontje draws on the natural world for inspiration, combined with an interest in storytelling, he creates pieces that have a clear human touch to them. His work can be found in major museums around the world; including Victoria and Albert Museum and MoMA in New York.
