Sofie Refer

Sofie Refer is a Danish lighting designer, focusing on Scandinavian simplicity. Her work aims to challenge perceptions whilst utilising nature and the beauty of simplicity. She studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, and upon graduating in 2003 Sofie opened her Copenhagen-based lighting design company – Refer and Staer. Sofie is also the creative director and co-founder of Nuura, a Danish lighting design company founded in 2017. Sofie Refer likes to challenge perceptions and with curiosity and eagerness, she interprets these themes in her lighting designs.

Always in search of a new way to play with light, Sofie creates designs that are a strong representation of Scandinavian elegance. It is not at all surprising that her work has resulted in a vast number of awards for her, including World’s Best Design (2009) and Excellent Product Design (2019)
