Margaret Howell describes her relationship with Anglepoise as 'I feel I’ve lived with Anglepoise most of my life – school homework under the light of an original black square-based Anglepoise, and later acquiring various coloured styles designed in the 1960s and 70s. One favourite, rescued from a skip, is a Yellow Apex 90, later to inform the choice of Yellow Ochre for the re-modelled Type 75™ lamp'. Margaret Howell makes parallels between the simplicity, functionality, authenticity, and timelessness of her men's and women's clothing designs in her designs for Anglepoise. Within her clothing designs, Howell has a hands-on approach that values not only the appearance of the final product but also the inspiring quality materials that she uses. This is clear in her elegant and bold Anglepoise designs.
Her first design with Anglepoise introduced a new colour finish called Yellow Orche that was incredibly successful and was then followed by Saxon Blue and Sienna. These colours have created a successful collection of colourful floor, table, desk, and wall lights that have all brought a touch of bright bold colour to the anglepoise brand. Alongside Sir Kenneth Grange, Howell has established a strong creative collaboration with Anglepoise and its designer and founder Sir Kenneth Grange. The two have paired Sir Grange's skills for product design and Howell's creative vision to create a stunning selection of lamps that showcase two talented British designers.
