Silje Nesdal is a Norwegian designer who debuted at Northern with her Reveal pendant. She began her career in the fashion industry but soon found that the fast-paced, fast-fashion aspect of the industry wasn't for her. She set her sights on furniture design and studied for an MA at the Academy of Arts and Design in Bergen and Helsinki. She incorporates her knowledge of fashion and design into her work and sees the value of the additional expertise in her designs.
Silje Nesdal grew up in the Fjords of Norway, an area with a rich history in furniture design, wool, and woodwork. She takes pride in knowing that many of her ancestors worked in a local factory that produced woolen textiles for furniture design and aims to use this inspiration for future projects. She looks to old Scandinavian designers for inspiration, focusing on how they had to think smart in the years after the Second World War to fit furniture into small apartments to make life easier for the user. Silje Nesdal was awarded ‘Newcomer of the Year’ at RAFF design week in Bergen.
"Good design for me is long lasting and environmentally friendly. I think it is important to make products that are considered down to the last detail, and honest in the choice of materials and design." - Silje Nesdal
