Sebastian Herkner

Born in 1981, Sebastian Herkner is a German designer who harnesses an appreciation for authentic materials and artisan skills. He studied Product Design at the University of Art and Design in Offenbach, Germany before embarking on an apprenticeship with Stella McCartney in London. This apprenticeship ran from 2003-2004 and began Herkner's fascination with materials and textures.

In 2006, Sebastian Herkner opened his own studio and has since designed furniture, lamps and smaller items for some of the world's largest brands and manufacturers. Balance is a key theme throughout his work and is influenced by observing the people around him. Sebastian Herkner is not so much influenced by trends, what interests him is simple techniques and traditional materials coupled with a straightforward mechanical principle.
