Ramon Bigas was born in Barcelona in 1941 and studied physics at the University of Barcelona, before deciding to chase his artistic nature and moving into the field of design. In 1958 he began designing and founded Associate Designers with Pep Sant, a multidisciplinary agency which became one of the most esteemed design companies in Europe. Due to its success, Bigas accepted more complex projects and received design students such as Antoni Arola to learn from his projects and train underneath him.

Bigas specialises in everyday objects but also carries out interior design projects for a range of clients. For Santa & Cole, he designed the Ramón chair, distinguished by its light metallic structure and handmade wicker seat. Another of his landmark commissions was the cauldron for the Olympic flame of the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Ramon Bigas reduces the complexity of design down to the problem it is trying to solve, and his work can be described as a functional and intuitive design.

"The designer is not an inventor; he is a figure who makes ideas achievable. This is the praxis of design" - Ramon Bigas
