Designer Bio Image for Pierre Charpin
Pierre Charpin is a French designer and artist, known for his refined approach to form and colour, blending his artistic background with functional design. Since the early 1990s, Charpin has focused on creating furniture and objects that celebrate minimalist aesthetics and pure geometry, often exploring how materiality and colour can shape an object's character. His work is widely exhibited and collected by prestigious institutions, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Charpin's designs range from limited-edition pieces to industrially produced objects, always maintaining a distinctive visual language that is both playful and sophisticated.

One of Charpin’s most notable collaborations has been with HAY, where he designed the PC Lamp Collection—a series of portable, table, and pendant lights that reflect his signature style of understated elegance. The PC Portable Table Lamp, a standout piece in the collection, showcases Charpin’s ability to merge aesthetic simplicity with practical innovation. The latest edition of the lamp incorporates 95% post-consumer recycled plastic, a USB-C charging port, and a replaceable battery, reinforcing both sustainability and longevity. His work with HAY demonstrates his talent for creating functional yet sculptural objects that seamlessly integrate into contemporary interiors and outdoor spaces.

Beyond his work with HAY, Charpin has collaborated with leading design houses such as Hermès, Alessi, Ligne Roset, and Venini, applying his artistic vision to a variety of mediums, from glass and ceramics to textiles and metalwork. His contributions to contemporary design have earned him numerous accolades, including the Designer of the Year award at Maison & Objet in 2017. Whether through lighting, furniture, or decorative objects, Pierre Charpin’s work embodies a deep understanding of material, craftsmanship, and the poetic nature of design.
