Jordi Garces was born in 1945 and graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture in 1970, he went on to work in the office of Oriol Bohigas, where he met Enric Soria. Alongside his design work with Soria, Garces also taught at a range of schools including EINA (1971-1973) and ETSAB (1975-2015).

Enric Soria was born in 1937 and also graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture in 1970, before going on to work in the office of Oriol Bohigas. Soria has taught at a wide range of schools across Spain and in 2014 he was awarded the Ciutat de Barcelona prize by the Barcelona City Council for his work in the restoration and conversion of the Borne Market.

Together Garces and Soria laid the groundwork for rationalism and their work together advocated the geometry of architecture and the functionalities of its composition. Notable among their first projects as a design duo are museum designs as well as product design, with the Sylvestrina collection for Santa & Cole now being noted as a Spanish design classic. They were awarded the City of Barcelona Award for Architecture and Urban Planning in 1996, the same year their collaboration ended.
