Gridy is a design studio created by two designers, Lars Olav Dybdal and Wilhelm Grieg Teisner. They both studied at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design before going on to establish their Norwegian-based studio in 2009. The name Gridy comes from a combination of both of their surnames. The team creates simple, functional products that have a strong personality and a dash of humour. Their Salto Collection for Northern showcases this perfectly, with these lamps featuring a seamless looping motion in an otherwise linear profile - a nod to the duo's love of snowboarding.
Gridy has Scandinavian roots, and they strive to convey a Nordic feel in their products. They are often influenced by nature in their designs, as well as their own styles and personalities. The Salto Light is an excellent example of this, with the looping frame a reference to the duo's shared love for snowboarding. They design products for international brands such as Northern Lighting, where they create pieces that leave a lasting impression with their individual style.
“Our ambition is always to create long-lasting design. We like honest use of materials and unexpected details that gives a product character and makes it interesting.” – Gridy.
