Federico Correa & Alfonso Mila were both born in 1924 and studied Architecture together at the University of Barcelona. The pair created an iconic partnership and are renowned for their large-scale projects, in 1953 they established their own architectural agency, further entwining the professional relationship that has made their names inseparable.

The work of Correa and Mila draws inspiration from the lessons on the Modern Movement taught by Josep Maria Jujol, Francesc Ràfols and José Antonio Coderch, with whom they collaborated for several years as apprentices, and from the architecture of northern Italy. Their main focus is rationality, always keeping the user's needs and overall satisfaction at the heart of each design. The duo excelled in teaching and producing both Barcelona and Spain’s creative work in the international debate on architecture and good design. For some projects that Correa and Mila felt were appearing more difficult than first assumed, they invited Miguel Mila onboard to assist in the design process - for instance, the Diana lamp (1993) for the office of the Mayor of Barcelona, Pasqual Maragall, edited and published in Santa & Cole's catalogue.

"We work with the same priorities that we set for our architectural projects: rationalising" - Alfonso Mila
