Carlo Urbinati and Alessandro Vecchiato take an innovative approach to design. Their partnership began in the 1980s when they designed their first collection of lights for Foscarini. Since then they have become pioneers in the Italian design world and have carried out a range of projects for numerous brands.
Urbinati was born in Rome and after studying Architecture he became a product designer before moving to Venice to found Foscarini. During this time he formed a partnership with Vecchiato and the pair began creating influential lighting solutions, often utilising traditional blown glass techniques. Their work with Foscarini began as designers before determining and co-ordinating a complete brand and product evolution path, setting the groundwork for a lighting manufacturer that is completely free in its ideas, its cultural references, and its technological processes: a unique addition to the designer lighting scene.
" Although design is one of our main assets, it is not the only way that we can enrich our product. Increasingly, we live in a visual world. As the origin of light in a room, we can help define the feeling of space." - Carlo Urbinati
