Antoni Arola was born in Tarragona in 1960, he relocated to Barcelona to study at the EINA School until he graduated in 1984. Upon graduating, Arola began working in prestigious professional studios in Spain, including the Lievore y Pensi Studio and shortly after he founded his own studio. Estudi Arola was founded in 1994 and within the first year, Antoni Arola had designed his first collection of lamps. These creations led to a long-term collaboration with Santa & Cole, a Spanish manufacturer of lighting.
Antoni Arola's work is known for being bold and dramatic and although he refuses to class himself as an artist it is clear to see the level of detail that goes into his work. For this exact reason, he has won numerous awards over the years including the ADI-FAD Delta award in 1999 and the Spanish Design Prize in 2003.
"Light is vital and basic, but can be aggressive, you have to domesticate it, you have to take it home. And that is always the challenge: how to take light home. From there on, I look for ways and excuses to do various projects, always pivoting on that same foundation or problem." - Antoni Arola
