Michael Anastassiades launched his London based design studio in 1994 and has designed products for various leading brands including several iconic lights for Flos. In 2007, he set up his own design brand, Michael Anastassiades Ltd, to produce his own signature collections of lighting, furniture, jewellery, and tabletop objects.
Michael Anastassiades’ design philosophy is to preserve the inherent qualities of materials through the use of natural finishes, exposed to the elements without any protective lacquer. At the heart of his work is a pursuit of timelessness - “What makes an object survive time?” he wonders. “Can an object become more beautiful as it ages?” Positioned between fine art and design, the Michael Anastassiades lighting collection aims to provoke dialogue, participation and interaction. He creates objects that are minimal, yet full of vitality one might not expect.
Formally trained as a civil engineer at Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine in London, Anastassiades went on to study industrial design at the Royal College of Art. Anastassiades’ work is featured in permanent collections globally including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the MAK in Vienna.
