Petite Friture Logo

Petite Friture are a French design brand, founded in 2009 by Amelie du Passage. The brand was formed based on the ethos that objects have souls which are ultimately an extension of their creators. They utilise distinctive aesthetics and vibrant designs, collaborating with a range of talented designers with varying styles.

Petite Friture are free-spirited, creating vibrant and beautiful products which include furniture, lighting and accessories. Optimism is a key component throughout every design crafted in partnership with Petite Friture, promoting lively and personable pieces, whilst avoiding expected style.

All lighting collections in the Petite Friture catalogue are created by new talents and designers, collaborating to produce pendant lights, table lamps, floor lamps and wall lights that all embody a shared vision of success and beauty.

A Purpose Driven Company

Petite Friture are now a Purpose Driven Company, a French corporate status which indicates that a business is legally obliged to prioritise social and environmental commitments. In France, a purpose-driven company (entreprise à mission, in French) is a corporate status that was introduced in 2019 as the law on company growth and transformation (PACTE) came into force. It allows companies to include social and environmental objectives in their articles of association, instead of being tied purely to economic achievements.

For Petite Friture this is an embodiment of their company values, since it's initial establishment, they have focused on responsible design and have vowed to help make change happen - putting their 'collective strength' to good use. Petite Friture's production is focused in Europe, with the majority being manufactured in France. 67% of their products can be dismantled at the end of their life or are single-material, while 65% already have 100% recyclable packaging.

Amélie du Passage Portrait

Amélie du Passage

Founder & Artistic Director of Petite Friture

Amelie du Passage graduated from École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) in Paris before starting her career as a speechwriter for Jean-Jacques Aillagon. In 2005 Passage held a managerial position within the FIAC (International Contemporary Art Fair), during her time here she curated their first exhibition entitled “Monumenta”. It was at this stage of her life that she acquired a love for design and began her journey within contemporary design. Amelie du Passage wanted to assert a dominant style in the field, this passion, along with a desire to promote new designers and other artists in the field, led to the creation of Petite Friture in 2009.

Petite Friture launched their first collection in 2010, and since then as Creative Director Passage has taken the company out of France and expanded into international waters with over 60 designers to its name and continues to push boldly forward to unearth new talents and to nurture a project with purpose. Amelie du Passage has accomplished her starting goals for the brand, providing a publication for which young designers can present their work whilst remaining true to her bold and playful style.

"Petite Friture is a typical French expression. It is, strictly speaking, a small fried fish that you usually catch in rivers. So it’s about this evening dinner in the summer with friends and family, a shared moment. ‘Friture’ also means a vibration. I think when we have this passion, we’re quite buzzed. It’s not very easy for people to pronounce, but in fact, they remember it well."

- Amélie du Passage
