As the year draws to a close, our team at David Village Lighting love to look back on the year and reflect on some favourite designs, popular pieces, and some longstanding classics. Many favourites from 2021 continued their reign throughout 2022, but there were a few new contenders in this year’s bestsellers. From bespoke British classics to Italian innovation with a retro appeal, let’s look at this year’s top products, as chosen by you:
Pendant: Tom Dixon Melts
Tom Dixon is the height of British luxury design, so it is no surprise that the Melt collection has landed in our bestsellers list. These lights are extremely popular for their stunning molten glass effect when illuminated, as well as their mirrored finish when turned off, they make the perfect statement in any contemporary space. These pendant lights were designed in collaboration with Front design group, who have designed many popular products on our website, they are well known for their experimental work and are skilled in the art of catching people’s eyes. The Tom Dixon Melts are a sure-fire conversation starter and look beautiful elevated above a dining table or in a trio above a kitchen island.
Pendant: Muuto Unfold
The Muuto Unfold Pendant light continues to excel as a David Village Lighting favourite, finding itself on the best seller list yet again. A well-established favourite for our customers, the Unfold pendant takes inspiration from industrial design with a playful modern twist. Designed by Form Us With Love in 2010, the durable silicone-based range comes in a variety of shades, offering an affordable and fun way to add a burst of colour to your home. The Unfold disperses a soft glow amongst your room and offers a traditional Nordic feel, whilst remaining trendy. This collection offers something for everyone.
Table: Artemide Nessino
Artemide Nessino has managed to revive the playful 1960’s style with a minimalistic touch, it is the smaller version of the Artemide Nesso, who gained a special mention in our 2021 Bestsellers list. Italian design and retro details have been a big hit this year, the minimalistic and expressive form of the Nessino has most definitely won over our customers following in the steps of the Nesso. The lamp, with a smaller body than the Nesso, fits just about everywhere in your home while the choice of orange, white or the new addition in red further validates its bold statement, it is a true celebration of the 1960s sensibility.
Pendant: Louis Poulsen PH 5
Designed on the principle of his 3-shade system, Poul Henningsen enhanced his collection with the PH 5 Pendant light, and it appears you all agree. The light fixture radiates a beautiful and warm glow that shines both upwards and downwards and is always glare free. The five separate shades ensure that the entire room is illuminated as the design disperses the light in different directions. Now with over 15 colour options, you can choose a PH 5 pendant light that fits best with your home décor and personal style. It expertly adds a sculptural element to whichever room you decide to display it in.
Portable: Anglepoise Type 90 Mini Mini
After launching in 2018, the Type 90 Mini Mini desk lamp quickly became a revolutionary task light and for good reason. It is a petite version of the iconic 1970’s Model 90 Desk Lamp. Like all Anglepoise lamps, it can be moved and adjusted how you see fit, but this edition is also portable. Currently available in seven different colour finishes, this quintessentially British design is half the size of a standard desk lamp and can fit into almost any space. The Type 90 Mini Mini also includes a USB cable that can be plugged into a laptop or a portable battery, meaning you can work on the go and use it for a variety of different tasks!
Furniture: Kartell Masters Chair
Although not part of our lighting range, the Kartell Masters Chair is a David Village Lighting Bestseller once again and we are not at all surprised. Designed by Philippe Starck, the Masters Chair is multi-award winning as well as one of the brand's bestselling furniture items. The lightweight but durable design boasts a unique and graphic look and can be used for either indoor or outdoor use. These chairs have practicality at their heart, whilst utilising colour to add a creative flair to your space. Whether in residential homes or public spaces, the Masters chair was made to stand out. Kartell have now branched out into metallic finishes for an added flair. The Kartell Masters Stool was also a bestseller on our website this year.
Wall/Ceiling: Artemide Teti
Since its release in 1970 the Artemide Teti Wall Light has continued to prove very popular, whether for its simplicity or its retro feel – our customers love it. The Teti is a minimalist design with maximum impact, the classic 1960’s style utilised in this design has become a huge hit in homes around the world. Vico Magistretti, the designer of this stripped back light, is renowned for his innovative, simple approach to design. Teti emits a soft and diffused light, creating the perfect ambience for your home and its base is available in five timeless colours.
Ceiling/Wall: Flos Glo-Ball Mini
Designed by Jasper Morrison, the Flos Glo-Ball Mini is an understated but functional favourite with our customers. Morrison utilised the concept of ‘super-normal’ when working on this light and it remains at the forefront of his designs. The hand blown opaline glass emits a warm diffused light and illuminates its surroundings beautifully, drawing your attention when switched on. The Glo-Ball Mini is available in two versions – you can choose between a Mini Glo-Ball ceiling/wall lamp that can be mounted on the wall and ceiling or a lamp that can be mounted onto a mirror, this is a truly versatile light.
