David Village Lighting: 2023 Highlights

22 December 2023

2023 has been an exciting year for the David Village Lighting team, from multiple events and exhibitions to taking on new brands, growing our team and now beginning to expand our office to make room for the future.

It is easy to get dragged into the pressure of a new year and we wanted to take a moment to appreciate all of our wins and highlight of 2023!

Events

The DVL Team at 3DD, Copehagen

2023 was the year of travelling for our team, from UK-based design festivals across London to flying out to other European destinations for Euroluce and 3 Days of Design. Whenever we could, we seized the opportunity to meet with brands, explore new cities and experience all of the year's new releases up close and personal.

Our first trip of the year was Milan for Euroluce; it was a fantastic opportunity for us to interact with some of our long-term partners, as well as discover a collection of new brands that are starting to take the design world by storm! We got to spend time with some of our bestselling brands such as Tom Dixon, Artemide, Flos, Moooi and Kartell. We were lucky enough to experience some of these brands' new releases that hadn't even hit the market yet, including the Tom Dixon Melt Portable, Tom Dixon Puff Pendant, Flos Ceramique Table Lamp and the Kartell Khan Chandelier.

For a more detailed report of our time in Milan, check out our Euroluce Highlights blog post.

The DVL Team at Clerkenwell Design Festival

Next up on our events calendar was the Clerkenwell Design Festival, an annual celebration of design spread across London. Our team headed down to join in the celebrations as well as tour some of our brands' showrooms and experience the pop-up displays, interactive presentations and much more. We got to meet with brands including New Works, Fritz Hansen, Brokis, Mater and Muuto, absorbing information and getting to know the ins and outs of their most popular products. If you're interested in learning more about our week in London, check out our Clerkenwell 2023 blog post.

3 Days of Design is one of the most popular design events of the year, based in Copenhagen this annual affair includes showroom tours, pop-up events, street installations, and workshops. This year also marked the 10th anniversary of the event which made the trip even more exciting. Our team were able to socialise with a wide collection of designers and brands, soaking up as much information as possible to pass on to our clients. For a more detailed rundown of everything we were lucky enough to experience in Copenhagen this year, check out our 3 Days of Design blog post.

New Brands

Occhio Logo

Occhio

Occhio was founded in 1999 by Axel Meise, who harboured a passion for innovation. Meise built the brand with a holistic approach to design, and the concept was created due to his own struggles in the lighting design field. In the 1990s, he developed lighting concepts for a range of customers and Meise found that the aesthetic and technical proliferation of luminaires and lighting systems on the market often got in the way of good results – so the Occhio system was born. Occhio want their lights to be an experience, presenting lighting solutions that playfully require user interaction.

Design For The People Logo

Design For The People

Design for the People create timeless lighting, based on Danish design. Their aim is to combine aesthetics, simplicity and functionality with good design, quality light and materials to last a lifetime. They utilise high quality materials such as marble, opal glass and brass. Established in 2015, DFTP reflect fresh inspiration and innovation - injecting a contemporary burst into Danish design tradition. Their products are designed to not only look beautiful in your space, but also to improve your life and the environment around you.

New In Our Showroom

Buster + Punch

This year we finally fitted a Buster + Punch display into our showroom and it has been a hit! It features some of their bestsellers including the Exhaust Spotlight, Heavy Metal Pendant, Caged Wall Light and their wide array of switches, sockets and dimmers. All crafted from high-quality metals with exceptional attention to detail, these lighting solutions and accessories are a beautiful new addition to our Sheffield-based showroom!

Audo Copenhagen

After Menu rebranded as Audo Copenhagen, we decided it was time to get their beautiful Danish designs into our showroom. Our team deliberated on what we thought would be best to feature for our customers and we decided upon a range of their bestsellers including the TR Bulb Suspension Frame, JWDA Portable, the Hashira collection and the Carrie Table Lamp.

Occhio

Occhio is an innovative lighting manufacturer, we knew immediately that they would be an exciting new addition to the showroom and our customers wholeheartedly agree based on the interest the display has shown. The main feature of the Occhio display is the Mito LED Floor Lamp which stands proudly arched over a seating area. The display also features the Sento LED Wall Light and Sento LED Pendant, all of these lighting solutions feature smart technology and encourage user interaction through unique dimming systems.

We also have an exciting new Flos display being fitted before the new year so keep your eyes peeled for more information and updates!

We cannot wait to see what we can achieve and experience in 2024, and we are excited for the new year. We want to thank all of our clients and customers for shopping with us and we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
