New Works
New Works were our first stop during Clerkenwell Design Week, and our team were welcomed with open arms. New Works produce sculptural lights that combine experimental design, tactility and craftsmanship. They honour natural materials, which is why marble and wood are such prominent materials in their work.
During our visit to the New Works display we were able to glimpse the Kizu Portable Lamp in its new finish; a stunning burnt orange that showcases the beauty of marble. This portable lamp not only adds a touch of elegance to your space but also provides it with soft illumination.
Brokis
Brokis produce timeless and iconic lighting solutions, utilising only the highest quality materials. Glass is a primary material in their work, and any glass that does not meet the high standards for a particular design is recycled and reused for their BROKISGLASS products.
Not only were we able to experience some Brokis classics and customer favourites, but we also got to preview the brand new Brokis Overlay Pendant which will be coming to our website very soon! The Overlay Pendant is modern yet timeless, boasting an extravagant style, with the use of clean geometric forms.
Fritz Hansen
The Fritz Hansen showroom was beautifully presented, and we expected no less. Each light was delivered in a beautiful home setting, allowing us to visualise the lamps in different environments. Fritz Hansen combines timeless aesthetics with functional design and refined lighting technology.
Not only did we get to experience the Idell pendants in person, but it was also our team's first time seeing the new Fritz Hansen Oneline in person. The Oneline is easily adjustable, allowing you to direct the light source and our team was able to experiment with the different settings. Fritz Hansen also displayed some beautiful summer releases and outdoor furniture, ideal as the weather begins to improve.
Mater
Mater prioritises environmentally friendly design, utilising waste materials to create functional and beautiful lighting and furniture. Some of the waste items they use for production include coffee grounds, fishing nets, industrial plastic waste, sawdust and even discarded beer kegs. Mater combines sustainability and circular production with timeless design.
During our visit, we were able to not only see but also interact with these materials, and were also introduced to some new products that are crafted from even more unique waste products. Being able to experience these materials first-hand and having the Mater team take the time to talk us through the production process, ensures that we are equipped with a wealth of knowledge that we can then pass on to you.
Muuto
Muuto is a favourite for some of our team members so we were all very excited for our final stop of the day - the Muuto showroom. We have added numerous new Muuto products to our website in the past year, so it was highly beneficial for us to be able to experience all of these newer releases in the flesh; such as the Ease Portable, the Beam Table Lamp and the Under the Bell Pendant in Dark Green.
Muuto combines Scandinavian tradition with new contemporary design aesthetics; they have already crafted some iconic products, such as the Unfold Pendant and the E27 Pendant. Muuto is known for being open to new ideas, handpicking the brightest design talent in Scandinavia and giving them the freedom to express their individual perspectives through everyday objects.
The David Village Lighting team thoroughly enjoyed another trip to Clerkenwell Design Week! We were able to witness some of the new designs being created by some of the top brands in the industry. We were also able to talk to brands about their products, giving us a more comprehensive insight into the logistics and technical aspects that go into such sophisticated designs.
Thank you to all of the brands that took the time to meet with us and show us around, and a huge well done to all of the people who worked hard behind the scenes to ensure Clerkenwell Design Week 2023 was a huge success!
